Flash PARCS: How to clear a paper jam on a Hengstler thermal printer

Modified on Fri, 4 Oct at 3:14 PM

The Hengstler thermal printer uses a standard 58mm x 385' paper roll which can get jammed and prevent the printer from printing receipts and functioning correctly. The following steps will showcase how to clear paper jams and clean the printer from any dust or foreign debris.

It is recommended to clean the printer every time the roll is changed since the image gets burned from the printer into the receipt, and residue can sometimes build up. In this case, the printer head can be cleaned with a cotton swab and alcohol as well as any plastic around it which can accumulate dust. The printer roll head must also be cleaned this way.

Watch the video below on how to check your printer and remove any paper jams.

Steps summary

1. To clear the printer from any paper jam, you can use the metal roll knob on the right-hand side to force the paper forward or backward.

2. The strip can also be pulled back from the printer to remove any crumpled sections. When reinserting the paper tip into the tray, the printer will automatically pull the paper when placed in the slot.

3. A test ticket will be printed after the paper strip is inserted, showing printer information.

4. If the printer head needs to be released to be able to clear the jam, disconnect the USB and power connectors from the top.

5. The blue hinge pins holding the head are located on both sides of the printer. Pulling them black will release the printer head.

6. After clearing the jam this way, place the printer head in its place and push the blue hinge pins to adjust it, connecting the power and USB cables back.
