CREATE AND ASSIGN NON-BURNABLE COUPONS

TOPICS DISCUSSED

Non-burnable coupons serve as a method to provide a unique price or a reduced parking rate to Transient parkers. They are specifically designed for repeated use, without the restriction of being valid for single use, and then discarded. Non-burnable coupons can be applied electronically by a Validator via the Validation portal, or by the parker via a PIN or barcode at a kiosk.

Non-burnable Coupons application options:

  • Electronic application via the Validation portal
  • Enter Access Code on Entry kiosk
  • Scan Coupon on Entry kiosk
  • Scan Coupon on Exit kiosk

The Administration Role access is required to set up Non-burnable Coupons.

Create Non-burnable Coupon

1. Log in to the Flash Admin portal.

2. Select Locations tab> Location name > Non-Burnable Coupon tab from the top menu.

3. Click Add New.

4. Enter a Name, and select Combine Coupons if the coupon is meant to be a stackable coupon.

It's recommendeded to enter a name that makes the Non-burnable coupon distinct from standard coupons. Ex: NB 1hr Off

You can either set a Discount Type or link the Coupon to an existing Validation Price using the Price drop-down menu.

To link to a Discount Type, follow these next steps:

5. Select the coupon Discount Type: Dollar, Percentage, or Time.

  • Select the calculation method if selecting a Time coupon type:
    • Lowest Price: Selects the lowest rate based on logic.
    • Move Arrival Time: Moves the arrival time based on the time discount.
    • Reduce Departure Time: Reduces departure time based on the time discount.

6. Input the Coupon Amount for the Discount Type

  • Dollar:  ex: 10.00 or .50
  • Percentage: ex: 50 or 100
  • Time: ex: 60 =1 hr

For the Percentage coupon type, the amount needs to be greater than 0 and less than or equal to 100.

  • 0% is not valid.
  • 100% is valid.
  • 101% or greater is not valid.

This example will yield a 50% discount coupon.

  • Leave Valid From and Valid To blank unless you would like the coupon to expire.
    • Valid from: The date when the coupon becomes active. Leave blank for immediate activation.
    • Valid To: The date when the coupon expires. Leave blank for no expiration.

  • Click the Save button.

Coupon Price Field Behavior

  • If you leave the Price field as None
The coupon will apply its discount to the ticket’s default transient rate.
  • If you set the Price field to a Price option
The ticket’s rate is replaced with the selected Price, and the coupon discount is then calculated based on that amount.

Using the Price Field Only

If you set the Price Field only and leave Discount Type blank, then the coupon will take on the pricing logic of the linked validation. The billback amount calculated will be based on the linked validation and associated Full Price.

Code Setting

The code field is always required for Non-burnable coupons, but it is only applicable for use with the Transient Access Code entry module or for Printed Non-burnable coupons.

Maximum Uses

The Max Uses field sets the number of times the coupon can be used.

Logical Zones

Assigns which Logical Zone the coupon can be used; if None is selected, the access defaults to all Logical Zones.

Coupons must be added to a ticket type so they can be applied to tickets.

In the Admin portal, go to the Ticket Types tab and select the Transient ticket type that contains the prices the coupons will be added to. Then, scroll down to the Coupons section and enable the Use Coupon flag on each created Coupon.

  1. To apply coupons to tickets, they must first be added to a ticket type. Start by navigating to the Ticket Types tab in the Portal.

  1. Select the ticket type that includes the prices where the coupons will be applied.

  1. Next, scroll down to the Coupons section and enable the Use Coupon flag.

  • Use Coupon: Checking off this flag assigns the coupon to the Ticket Type. This allows applying the coupon to the Prices assigned to the same Ticket Type.
  • Requires PIN: If this flag is turned on, the validator user would need to enter a PIN  before using the coupon.
  • Is Hidden: Hides the coupon in the Flash Valet app. Users would only be able to add the coupon via barcode.

  1. Coupons must be linked to the validator by going to the Validation Accounts tab on the left-hand side of the Admin portal, and selecting or searching for the validator.

  1. Scroll down to the Coupon Types section to check the box for each coupon that the validator should access. After changes are made, click the Save button.

Now the non-burnable coupon can be used by the Validator Account to process via one of the coupon application options.

Printed Non-burnable Coupon Barcodes

Non-burnable Coupons barcodes are created through an external system. Here's an example site that provides barcode generation.

  1. Go to https://barcode.tec-it.com/en/
  2. Select 2D Codes > PDF417.
  3. Enter the crated coupon's PIN Code with the following prefix:
    • FVAC: For scanning upon Entry (Transient Access Code barcode format)
    • FVPC: For scanning upon Exit (chaser discount)
      • For example, if the coupon's PIN code is GO20, the barcode should be FVPCGO20(see image example).
  4. The barcode is provided to customers via the operator's own system.

The code can consist of alphanumeric characters or numeric only.
