ParkWhiz: Pass Transfer Rules

Modified on Wed, 4 Jun at 1:14 PM

A parking pass can be transferred or revoked on the ParkWhiz web or ParkWhiz app. Passes can be transferred an infinite number of times from the original owner down to person A, B, C, and so on. Users are categorized as the Most Recent Transferer, Most Recent Transferee, and Intermediate Transferer, which can be any amount in between.

Transferring a Parking Pass

Transfer logic functions by user assignment in the transfer process, divided into four categories:

  • Original Purchaser: The user who bought/created the booking originally.

  • Intermediate Transferer: Any user in the chain that doesn’t fit in another category. They have gotten the booking through a share, but are not Most Recent Transferrer or Most Recent Transferree.

  • Most Recent Transferer: The user who transferred the booking to Most Recent Transferree.

  • Most Recent Transferree: The user that most recently had the booking shared with them, has access to the parking pass, and could potentially share the booking with future users.

Original Buyer: Revoke & Transfer Options

The original buyer’s available actions vary depending on the transfer history of the parking pass. The visibility of Revoke and Transfer buttons is determined by whether and how many times the pass has been transferred.

1. Original Buyer has not transferred the pass

  • My Pass Booking Cell:
    • View Pass
    • Cancel

  • Parking Pass Screen:
    • Transfer Pass
    • Get Directions

2. Original Buyer has transferred the pass once

  • My Pass Booking Cell:
    • View Pass
    • Revoke

  • Parking Pass Screen:
    • Revoke Pass

3. Original Buyer’s pass has been shared 1 or more additional times

  • My Pass Booking Cell:
    • View Pass
    • Cancel

  • Parking Pass Screen:
    • Revoke Unavailable

Revoke Behavior

The ability to revoke a pass is limited to the most recent transferrer—the person who last sent the pass. A pass can be revoked at any time before the parking session begins, whether the transfer is still pending or has been successfully accepted. After the session has started, the pass can still be revoked as long as the recipient hasn’t scanned it or initiated the session.

When the Revoke button is tapped, a confirmation dialog appears. Choosing Don’t Revoke cancels the action and returns the user to the current screen. Choosing Revoke removes the pass from the recipient’s My Passes booking list.

Revoke Transferred Parking Pass

  • Only the most recent sender (i.e., the last person who transferred the pass) can revoke it.

  • A pass can be revoked before the parking session starts, regardless of whether the transfer is pending or completed.

  • A pass can also be revoked after the session has started, as long as the recipient has not scanned the pass or begun the session.

  • There are no system constraints on the revoke endpoint. Technically, a pass may still be revoked even if the recipient has already scanned it.

  • When the "Revoke" button is tapped, a confirmation dialog will appear.

    • Selecting "Don’t Revoke" will cancel the action and return to the current screen.

    • Selecting "Revoke" will remove the pass from the recipient’s My Passes bookings list.

Notes

  • Any stored LP information will be deleted when a pass is shared
  • The Edit LP options show only for locations requiring a license plate; available only for the most recent transferee, or original buyer if not shared
