Flash PARCS: Large Capacity Ticket Roll Retrofit Gen 3

Modified on Wed, 1 Nov, 2023 at 11:51 AM

OVERVIEW

The new large capacity ticket roll supplies 4,000 - 5,000 tickets compared to the current standard paper roll that supplies about 500 tickets. Flash supplies a Big Ticket Roll Retro Kit to accommodate the large capacity roll in existing Flash Kiosks. Please contact [email protected] to order a Retro Kit. Follow the steps in this guide to install the new mounting and roll holder components.

RETRO KIT COMPONENTS

The Retro Kit contains the components below:

Kiosk Roll Mount Bracket: Includes connected wire sensor and roll holder roller with end cap.

Kiosk Big Ticket Hardware Mount Bracket: Metal bracket to hold USB Hub and amplifier or relay board.

Printer Body (no bucket): Printer frame to hold printer head and paper chute.

Large Paper Roll: Ticket and receipt paper.

REQUIRED TOOLS

The tools below are required.

  • 3/8 socket or wrench
  • 7/16 socket or wrench
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Recommended: 6” socket extension

INSTALL THE BIG TICKET ROLL

Step 1. Determine which generation Flash Kiosk your operation is using

To determine which generation Flash Kiosk your operation is using, verify the location of the relay board and the amplifier.

  • If the relay board is located above the amplifier, it’s a Generation 2 Kiosk and the relay board needs to be relocated  during this retrofit.

  • If the amplifier is located above the relay board, it’s a Generation 3 Kiosk and the amplifier needs to be relocated during this retrofit.

INSTALL THE BIG TICKET ROLL

Step 1. To begin

1. Open the Flash Kiosk with the kiosk Key.

2. Turn off the Flash Kiosk using the switch on the surge protector in the bottom right corner of the kiosk.

Step 2. Remove the Printer

3. Unplug the red (24v) and black (12v) power cables located on the top left side of the printer.

4. Use a 3/8 socket or wrench to remove the two 10-32 nyloc nuts located just below each of the blue locking pins on the printer. Once the nyloc nuts are removed, remove the printer unit from the kiosk and set it aside to disassemble.

Step 3. Disassemble the Printer

5. Locate the bucket sensor cable on the top right side of the printer head (this is the sensor cable connected to the paper bucket). Gently pull straight up on the connector to disconnect it.

6. Disconnect the paper chute cable by carefully pulling the remaining connectors apart.

7. Pull the two blue locking pins back slightly into the unlocked position, then detach the printer head from the body of the printer. Once detached, gently set aside the printer head.

8. Remove the paper chute by gently pulling it back in the opposite direction of the arrows.

9. Pull the blue locking pins completely out from the printer body. It may take a bit of force to remove them.

Step 4. Assemble the printer with new body

10. Insert the paper chute into the new printer body and align the latches with the angled locks on the new printer body. Slide it forward, arrows facing outward, until it snaps into place.

11. Slide the two blue locking pins into the new printer body with the hooks facing the interior of the printer body.

12. Pull each locking pin into the unlocked position and align the four locking holes of the printer head with the new body. Once aligned, slide the locking pins back into the locked position and reconnect the paper chute sensor cable.

Step 5. Relocate the Amplifier

13. Unplug all connections from the amplifier (12v power, positive speaker wire, negative speaker wire, RCA cables) and remove the four screws that secure the amplifier.

14. Attach the amplifier to the inside of the Hardware Mount Bracket with the four screws that held the amplifier in place. The amplifier should be positioned with the knobs and power switch facing the bottom of the kiosk and all of the electrical ports facing upwards.

Step 6. Remove the USB Hub

15. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the USB hub to the belly plate (on the top and bottom of the USB hub). Set aside the screws.

Step 7. Install the Big Ticket Hardware Mount Bracket

16. Remove the 2.1mm power jack from the relay board.

17. Place the offset side of the Hardware Mount Bracket against the belly plate where the USB hub was just removed from. Align the bracket so the set of holes closest to the bend is aligned with the holes that the USB hub was fastened to. When aligned properly, the holes closest to the edge of the offset side will be off of the belly plate.

18. Place the provided screws into the aligned holes and tighten them with a Phillips head screwdriver to secure the Hardware Mount Bracket to the belly plate.

Step 8. Remount the USB Hub

19. Fasten the USB hub to the left edge of the Hardware Mount Bracket with the screws that previously held it in place. It should now sit to the left of the belly plate.

20. Reconnect all cables to the Amplifier (12v power, Positive speaker wire, negative speaker wire, RCA cables).

21. Reconnect the power to the relay board. Make sure to run the 2.1mm power jack underneath the Hardware Mount Bracket, and out across the relay board so it isn’t touching the Hardware Mount Bracket.

Step 9. Install the Roll Mount Bracket

22. Use a 7/16 socket or wrench to remove the two 1⁄4-20 nyloc nuts below the surface exciter (speaker).

23. Orient the Roll Mount Bracket so that the roll holder is on the left side. Align the two holes of the mount with the studs from the previous step and then fasten the mount using the same 1⁄4-20 nyloc nuts.

Step 10. Reinstall the Printer

24. Slide the paper chute of the printer through the slot in the belly plate, arrows first, then align the holes onto the studs below the slot. Use the two 10-32 nyloc nuts that were previously removed to reattach the printer with a 3/8 socket or wrench.

25. Thread the printer roll sensor wire from the Roll Mount Bracket through the opening in the flap on top of the printer with enough slack to attach it. Pull the sensor wire tight back through the gap. Then, plug in the black 12v and red 24v power cords to the printer.

Step 11. Install the Large Paper Roll

26. Remove the cotter pin from the Roll Mount Bracket and slide the orange paper guard off of the paper holder.

27. Slide the large paper roll onto the paper holder until it covers both white rollers and arrange the roll so that the paper can feed into the printer tray.

28. Slide the orange paper guard back onto the paper holder with the side labeled “paper side” facing the paper roll. Slide the cotter pin back into its place to secure the paper roll and ensure that the paper roll won’t slide off the holder.

29. Remove all adhesive from the paper roll and feed the paper into the paper tray. Insert just enough paper so that the printer can feed itself when the kiosk is powered on.

Step 12. Turn on the Kiosk

30. Turn the kiosk back on with the switch on the surge protector.
